🌌 Abyss Ascent Lore Devlog 1 — Earth 2030: Pre-Collapse

Welcome, wanderers of the void.

Abyss Ascent isn’t just a roguelike—it’s a descent into a pre-collapse world where reality bends, and survival means adaptation. This devlog peels back the veil on the world beneath the surface, where every wave is more than combat—it’s a test of identity, memory, and transformation.

Earth, 2030. A relatively small planet in the vast universe, now entering a volatile phase of forced evolution. Mana, once dormant, has awakened violently—an alien energy that reshapes biology, physics, and consciousness. Its arrival wasn’t gradual. It was a rupture.

🧬 The Earth’s Response

To protect itself, Earth did something unprecedented: it blessed select individuals with traits—random, unpredictable, and deeply personal. These traits reflect behaviour, personality, and latent potential. Some gained heightened reflexes. Others, the ability to manipulate mana directly. These individuals became Defenders.

You are one of them.

🕳️ The Dungeons: Living Constructs

While Earth's own awakened Mana empowered humans -- The invading foreign Mana created autonomous constructs known as Dungeons. These aren’t ruins or temples. They’re living systems, designed to evolve, defend, and consume.

  • Wave Generation: Dungeons spawn monsters infinitely, adapting to player tactics.
  • Mana Absorption: Every death—player or monster—feeds the Dungeon’s core.
  • Evolution Threshold: Once saturated, a Dungeon begins to change…

⚠️ The Raids: Expansion Protocols

When a Dungeon reaches critical mass, it evolves into a Raid—a larger, more dangerous construct capable of slowly  influencing the real world.

  • Raid Constructs: These spawn unique elite monsters, each with adaptive mechanics and lore-driven abilities.
  • World Influence: Raids begin to warp nearby environments—cities, forests, even time itself.
  • Player Resistance: Stronger players are drawn to Raids, but few return. Their mana fuels further expansion.

🎮 Gameplay Reflections

This lore isn’t just flavour—it’s embedded in the mechanics:

  • Wave Transitions mirror Dungeon evolution
  • Bosses are Raid-born anomalies with rule-breaking powers
  • Trait System reflects Earth’s blessings—your build is your identity
  • Special Currency may be tied to mana fragments from fallen Raids

🖼️ What’s Next?

In future devlogs, I’ll explore:

  • Character selection and trait lore
  • Dungeon architecture and visual evolution
  • Raid corruption effects and boss design
